External representation and media presence to create an image and consolidate confidence for investments

Challenges: knowledge requirement for the Swiss politicians to take well-considered decisions, media-bashing against the industry, difficulty in recruiting due to poor visibility.

     -      Lobby through the Swiss Association of the Nutrition Industry

     -      Presence within the media (TV, radio, newspapers, internet)

Results: Visit of the prime ministers Doris Leuthard and Johann Schneider-Ammann (Konolfingen, 26.04.2008 and 01.09.2011) / New road map of the Swiss Association of the Nutrition Industry (2018). Speaker at the Cleantec conference 2012.

Creation of climat for success within management committees and factory staff

Challenges: Lack of motivation, difficult social and political environment, high turnover of key staff, attractiveness of the location.

Results: (Creully, 2019) - Staff retention strategy leading to the reduction of turnover from 19% to 9% and within 12 months / (Boué, 2019) - Retention of the key staff in line with the succession plan, smoothen relationship with the unions, confidence restored in performance improvement capability which led to get the trust of the board for renovating the site / (Epinal, 2019-2020) - Creation of an entrepreneurial spirit, product & technology mastership and cost efficience. Ultimately in-sourced volumes increased by 27% over 4 years) and the cost of production reduced by 6%.

Contribution to environmental sustainability of the traditional industry

Challenges: Payback of environmental related project, operational contraints added by the technological solutions, level of internal commitments.

     -      Design of a workable solutions for 50% CO2 reduction and water neutral for a 50 ktons factory

     -      Internal lobby and communication plan

Results : (Konolfingen, 2008-2010) - Construction of the most environmental performing spray drying plant of the Nestlé group. Set up the roadmap for a water neutral and CO2 optimal plant (-46% already achieved).
